BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Dr. Sumera Jawad is a Pakistani artist and academician renowned for her contributions to studio practice in fine arts. Born in Pakistan, she served the College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, Lahore for nearly 20 years in various leadership and academic roles including Coordinator, Research Centre; Chairperson, Department of Fine Arts; and Principal of the College of Art and Design.
Dr. Jawad holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts and is an HEC Approved Supervisor. Throughout her teaching career she has mentored and produced numerous PhD, MPhil, and MFA scholars, while also publishing extensively in national and international research journals.
As a practicing artist, Dr. Jawad has held 12 solo exhibitions in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and 3 solo shows in England at reputed galleries. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Pakistan and abroad. Her studio practice is deeply rooted in exploration of identity and the Self, with the female form as her preferred medium of expression.
Deeply committed to nurturing the next generation, she is actively involved in conducting workshops and masterclasses for students and emerging professionals. She continues to evolve as an artist herself through participation in residencies and workshops, embracing the philosophy of being a lifelong student of the Arts.
Since 2017, she has curated and directed Karbath, an annual artist residency that provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to explore, experiment, and create in a collaborative environment.
Dr. Sumera Jawad’s work bridges academic rigor with studio practice, making her one of the most influential voices in contemporary art education and practice in Pakistan. Currently joined as Professor of Fine Arts at School of Arts, IAC, Lahore.
