Program overview

The BS in Popular Culture is a unique interdisciplinary program that examines the ways in which media, art, psychology, and architecture shape cultural expression and social identity. Designed to bridge theory and practice, the program enables students to critically engage with cultural narratives while developing the creative and analytical skills needed to thrive in today’s interconnected world.
The program is structured into four core modules:
1. Module I: Psychology & Culture (will be offered by: School of Culture & Language)
2. Module II: Film & TV/Media (will be offered by: School of Digital and Cinematic Arts)
3. Module III: Art & Culture (will be offered by: School of Arts)
4. Module IV: Architecture & Culture (will be offered by: School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism)

Scope of the Program

This degree opens pathways in both creative and analytical fields of popular culture. Students gain an in-depth understanding of how media, psychology, art, and architecture influence cultural identity, expression, and everyday life. Through interdisciplinary study, creative projects, and field-based research, they develop the skills to critically analyze cultural trends and produce innovative content. Graduates can pursue careers in psychology, media, entertainment, counseling, education, art and cultural industries, publishing, advertising, and consultancy, or advance into postgraduate studies in cultural studies, media, or related disciplines.

Notes:

Withholding Tax which was chargeable on fee, where annual fee exceeds Rs. 200,000 under section 236 (i) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 (The Ordinance) has been omitted by the Finance Act 2022. However, this tax will be charged to the students as when implemented again by the Government.

Entry Requirements

1. At least 45% marks or 2nd division in F.Sc./FA/I.Com./ICS/A level or equivalent.
2. Equivalence certificates issued by IBCC in case of O/A levels or qualifications from Foreign Universities/Institutes only.
3. Candidates are also required to appear in an in-house written test, followed by an interview

Pathway structure: The pathway structure on BA Fine Art creates a focus for sustained critical engagement. It allows you to both specialise and develop an interdisciplinary working practice.

Exhibitions: The course offers experimental forms of exhibition-making. This occurs both within the College and in public venues outside the institution. Previous external partners have included Archway Tower, the British Library, Camden Arts Centre, Camden Collective and the Tate.

Location: BA Fine Art is situated in the College’s Granary Building. This location in King’s Cross is key, enabling students to engage in the changing dynamics of the area and build links with the local community as well as neighbouring institutions such as Wellcome Collection and the British Library.
