Program overview

Institute for Art and Culture offers a rigorous and intensive 4-Year degree program in English Language and Literature. The program aims at developing learners’ ability to critically read and analyze linguistics and literary texts in their historical, socio-political, cultural and philosophical contexts combined with aesthetic pleasure and intellectual stimulation. Emphasis is on the breadth and depth of coverage in the selection of courses in order to develop an understanding of different genres and forms of literary expression (poetry, prose, novel, drama, non- fiction) as well as linguistic and rhetorical skills through frequent reading and writing assignments and class discussions. The program structure is flexible and diverse to cater to the needs of the contemporary job market and student interests at the same time. Study of literature is blended with the study of English language with the aim of improving the linguistic and pedagogical competence of those who wish to choose to teach as their career as well as those preparing for careers in media, business, diplomacy etc., which demand well developed interpretive communication skills.

Entry Requirements

1. At least 45% marks or 2nd division in F.Sc./FA/I.Com./ICS/A level or equivalent.
2. Equivalence certificates issued by IBCC in case of O/A levels or qualifications from Foreign Universities/Institutes only.
3. Candidates are also required to appear in an in-house written test, followed by an interview

Pathway structure: The pathway structure on BA Fine Art creates a focus for sustained critical engagement. It allows you to both specialise and develop an interdisciplinary working practice.

Exhibitions: The course offers experimental forms of exhibition-making. This occurs both within the College and in public venues outside the institution. Previous external partners have included Archway Tower, the British Library, Camden Arts Centre, Camden Collective and the Tate.

Location: BA Fine Art is situated in the College’s Granary Building. This location in King’s Cross is key, enabling students to engage in the changing dynamics of the area and build links with the local community as well as neighbouring institutions such as Wellcome Collection and the British Library.
