Pakistan is going through the difficult times of fighting a pandemic let loose by the Covid-19. The functioning of the IAC in the traditional sense has been disrupted but this has also created an opportunity of planning ahead for times to come. Harnessing our resources in time, the IAC was able to switch to online teaching and with a collective effort by the faculty and a tremendous cooperation from the student we were able to prevent any significant loss of academic program; in fact we are now better prepared to face any such crises in the future. I take the opportunity to congratulate all the concerned teachers and students. Education is essentially awareness; being aware of yourself and your ambitions, being aware of your family and your role, being aware of the society, the environment, the profession of your choice and its potential. In the 21st century awareness of the tremendous developments of science, and technology and its integration with Art is the key to planning for the future. This becomes even more important as we bear witness to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and realize the fragility of our world. At IAC whether you train as an architect, a designer, a painter, a film maker, or in the new media, the common thread will be the deep understanding of the arts that you will acquire as you will have ample opportunity to explore and appreciate the various facets and expressions in the arts and the underlying philosophical moorings. IAC aims to equip you with the spirit of inquiry and reasoning that will be your life time asset which will allow you to explore the many directions you can follow based on sound knowledge and reasoning. The Institute provides you a unique opportunity as it continuously seeks and nurtures partnerships within the communities it serves in creating effective learning environments for its learners. Our aim is to ensure that you realize your potential – academically, professionally and personally. We value our heritage, while keeping our focus on the future. Our courses are designed to give you the breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and experience that will enable you to go out into the world and make a difference. Whether you enroll as a student or join as a valued faculty member or be a part of the several research initiatives or come in to listen to an invited speaker or visit an exhibition, the IAC will transform you. education; and providing access to affordable, innovative, quality undergraduate and graduate programs leading to the successful completion of valuable degrees in the arts.

In the 21st century, knowledge is rapidly converging into a wonderfully creative mix. Science, art and technology are shedding barriers to discover new horizons in computer graphics, animation, digital arts, conservation, environment, tangible and intangible heritage, communication, culture and development. The human mind as never before in its history is rediscovering language and it multiplicity, to soar to greater heights. New insights into cognition and design show that language is the vehicle of the mind from where creativity and art pours forth. An environment of integrity of all arts is generating a culture of synthesis. IAC focuses on the development of a narrative of Pakistan with its complexity of cultural and linguistic diversity. The diverse people of Pakistan come together to form a national bouquet rooted in variety. It is the mission of the IAC to be part of the vanguard, the leading force, in the evolution of the twin forces of conservation and development. Architecture, design and urbanism integrate to make our student aware of his society, heritage and its future aspirations. Our students as practitioners of the living art, in all its forms, present and yet to come, are creative and equipped with the latest technology and science to propel the new art forms to face TOMORROW.

Culture is that set of beliefs and practices which animates, sustains and binds a people and thereby defines identity. In the present maelstrom of existence, culture is at once being enriched and destroyed; insights of philosophy, artistic endeavor and scientific discovery continually bring a unique dynamism to human existence; the past is our bedrock and yet it must continuously evolve. The clock cannot stop nor be turned back. The perennial question remains: what must we carry through from our past and what must be changed to cope with current context of existence? This is the essence of the debate that takes place in our persons and society, albeit mostly at the subsurface level of consciousness, and generates conflict. The mechanism of conflict-resolution that a society evolves reflects its maturity. Open debate, tolerance for different views, freedom of expression, unhindered search for holistic knowledge of art and science, a clear bar on violence and institutions that foster this are qualities of a mature culture.

About IAC

Open debate, tolerance for different views, freedom of expression, unhindered search for holistic knowledge of art and science, a clear bar on violence and institutions that foster this are qualities of a mature culture.

(Continued)

Art in the full sweep of all aesthetic events, thrill of discovery of laws of nature, creativity in technology, joy of creation, provides experiences that uplift ordinary existence to a feeling of fulfillment, peace and serenity, and with that, tolerance towards the ‘other’, the ‘different’ and the ‘outsider’ germinates and flourishes. Cognition processes the information received from the five senses along with what is gleaned from books, which are a summary of other people’s experiences, and from other external stimuli. Wide exposure to all segments of the society enriches the mind, but then it is necessary to verbalize and write the cognition to help the integrative process and form an opinion. Verbalizing and writing of thoughts clarifies and sharpens them and this can be called ‘reading the mind’. In the correlation of language and mind this is an important process and helps the mind to further vault to higher concepts and understanding through self-analyses and self-criticism. Understanding of the working of nature, the process of creation of objects of beauty, comes from this integrative process.
