IAC and WCLA signed MOU on 3rd October 2019 to collaborate in the fields of Heritage, Conservation and Tourism. The proposed programs related to Heritage and Tourism will encompass both a theoretical component which will be imparted at the IAC and a practical component/ internship which will be taught in the field and facilitated by the Walled City Development Authority (WCLA). As a part of internship, students will not only participate in on-going projects, but also learn from completed projects, success stories and challenges faced during the process. The projects may include but not limited to the conservation projects located in old Walled City and Lahore Fort. Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) has various on-going and completed projects, some of which are listed below:

The projects may include but not limited to the conservation projects located in old Walled City and Lahore Fort. Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) has various on-going and completed projects in Lahore.

On 3 October, 2019, the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) and the Institute for Art and Culture (IAC), Lahore, have agreed to collaborate to educate and train students in the fields of Heritage Conservation and Tourism. The joint professional development program will focus on human resource development in the field of conservation, tourism, preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of cultural industries. This program is the first of its kind as it will be a joint collaboration between a professional organization and an academic institution. The program will encompass both a theoretical component which will be imparted at the IAC and a practical component which will be facilitated by the WCLA.

Modular Course System

The proposed academic programs are based on various modules of courses/ lectures. The modules consist of core courses, theory classes and studio based learning. Apart from proposed Certificate Courses (that are based on focuses areas of studies), students can also choose other courses/ lectures, based on their interests and duration of studies

Technology Oriented Courses

IAC believes in innovative but responsible use of technology oriented tools and techniques for education. The proposed program programs offer various technology oriented courses, including the following:

  • Video Making and Editing
  • Desktop Publishing
  • 2D Animation Design
  • CAD for Textile and Fashion
  • Survey and Documentation

Animation and Multimedia courses will be done in coordination with the School of Digital & Cinematic Art, with the motto of ‘Telling stories; Changing Lives.’

PROGRAM TIMINGS

Classes for Certificate and Diploma Courses will be scheduled in the evening during weekdays and mornings during weekend at IAC Campus.

Multimedia Lab for Audio-Video, Animation and Game Design

The students will have better future job prospects if they are skilled at latest technologies and channels of information oriented entertainment. Prospective students will also have access to purpose built, multimedia lab to support technology oriented courses.

Incubation Center

IAC has established an Incubation Center to create career opportunities for the students enrolled the Certificate and Post-Graduate Diploma Programs.  The purpose of the Incubation Center is to achieve the following:

  • Bring together academia and industry.
  • Help create job opportunities in the market.
  • Help in developing exciting business ideas/ start-up by providing them resources for 3-6 months in case of a feasible idea. This can also be based on their final project in the post-graduate diploma program.

Center for Research and Consultancy

Center for Research and Consultancy (CRC) established by statutes bring in research projects and consultancies linked with the interests pursued by the IAC. The Center for Research and Consultancy (CRC) has a portfolio of many projects which have been assigned to IAC by diverse donors, including external funding agencies,  national organizations including NGOs/NPOs, or have been initiated by IAC involving the institute’s faculty and experts.

AWARD OF CERTIFICATES

After successful completion of  the academic program, students will be awarded Certificate or Post-Graduate Diploma Certificate, (depending on the course selected). Students who will participate in the workshops, will also be awarded Certificates of Participation. The certificates will be distributed among students  by the Vice Chancellor, during an Award Ceremony at IAC Campus.

Saba Samee

 Associate professor –  Coordinator for the School of Culture and Language. 

Saba Samee has a Masters in the Archaeology of Buildings from the University of York, UK. Her undergraduate degree is in B. Architecture from the National College of Arts, Lahore. As part of THAAP, she has worked extensively on projects awarded by UNESCO, UKAID, MEDA-USAID, Norway and Dutch funding agencies, gaining experience in conservation and mapping built heritage, including the World Heritage Sites of Lahore Fort and Makli, as part of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan team. Internationally, she has acquired conservation experience in Spain as part of the DIADRASIS team. Ms. Samee has presented research papers in diverse national and international conferences and is a published author of a number of research papers, book chapters, and articles. Her research interest focuses on the relationship and values of People associated with their Places.
