The Department of Film & TV at the Institute for Art & Culture (IAC) organized an
acting workshop on October 30, 2024, featuring esteemed Hollywood actor and
international trainer Mr. John Samaha, an Australian native. This interactive
workshop was organized as a valuable learning opportunity for students,
emphasizing the practical applications of acting and directorial skills.
Mr. Sikandar Javed, Head of the Department, extended a warm welcome to Mr.
Samaha, joined by Assistant Professor, Mr. Syed Ali Sultan and visiting Assistant
Professor, Ms. Maryum Yousaf. The workshop proved to be a successful
collaborative event, where Mr. Samaha introduced participants to various
acting techniques, focusing on improvisation and the methodologies involved
in directing actors.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Najma Najam, along with Acting Associate
Dean of the School of Digital and Cinematic Art, Dr. Asim Manzoor, presented
the official IAC souvenir to Mr. Samaha as a token of appreciation. To conclude
the workshop, Mr. Samaha presented certificates to the participating students,
marking the event as a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
This initiative underscores the department’s commitment to providing its
students with international exposure and professional training in acting
practices, enriching their academic journey at IAC.

THE BEHIND, FIRST FTV PODCAST
On November 14, 2024, the Department of Film &
TV hosted a guest lecture titled “Importance of
Leadership Skills for Actors,” organized by Ms.
Maryum Yousaf, visiting faculty member. The
guest speaker Ms. Iram Farooq, a gold medalist
with an MPhil in Educational Leadership and
Management, known for her work as an English
teacher, researcher, and teacher trainer. Ms.
Iram also serves as a visiting faculty member
and thesis co-advisor at a prestigious university.
The session highlighted the impact of leadership
skills on actors, enhancing their confidence,
public speaking, and communication abilities.
Through interactive activities such as breathing,
confidence-building, and improvisation
exercises, students gained practical skills to
improve spontaneity and dialogue delivery. The
session concluded with certificate distribution by
the guest speaker, marking a valuable learning
experience for all attendees.
The Department of Film & TV proudly announces
the launch of its new podcast, The Behind, an
insightful series designed to dive deep into the
inner workings of the media and entertainment
industry. This innovative podcast is hosted by
Assistant Professors Mian Umar Farooq and Syed
Ali Sultan, who bring their expertise and insider
perspectives to the conversation. The Behind is
directed by the Head of the Department, Mr.
Sikandar Javed, whose vision for the podcast is
to serve as an engaging platform for uncovering
the industry's untold stories and insider

IAC 2ND FILM FESTIVAL MEETING
industry experts, covering a wide range of topics from creative
processes to career-building tips, current trends, and the
challenges and opportunities within the field of Film & TV. This
initiative underscores the department’s commitment to
nurturing an informed, inspired, and well-prepared new
generation of media professionals.
The Department of Film & TV held a pivotal planning meeting for
the upcoming 2nd IAC Film Festival, supervised by Mr. Syed Ali
Sultan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Film & TV, and Mr.
Sikandar Javed, Head of the Department of Film & TV. The
meeting focused on coordinating essential details for the
festival, fostering a collaborative approach to ensure the
success of this highly anticipated event.
Key objectives discussed included finalizing the event’s structure,
programming, and theme. The team aimed to enhance
engagement, curating a lineup that appeals to a broad
audience and showcases emerging talent. Through these efforts,
the team aims to elevate the IAC Film Festival as a premier event
in the regional film industry, celebrating creativity and the
cinematic arts.

TV DRAMA PRODUCTION SHOOT AT IAC
The Department of Film & TV FTV at the Institute for Art & Culture
IAC proudly witnessed a significant landmark as the 6th and
7th-semester students conducted their drama shoot at IAC. This
endeavour was part of their course, TV Drama Production,
instructed by Ms. Maryum Yousaf.
The initiative aimed to provide students with hands-on practical
training, bridging theoretical knowledge, and real-world
application. Through this drama production, the students
experienced the intricacies of TV drama making, including
pre-production, on-set execution, and post-production
processes.
This practical exercise not only enhanced their technical skills but
also fostered teamwork, creativity, and an in-depth
understanding of the production dynamics essential for crafting
compelling narratives for television.

AI-POWERED VIDEO PRODUCTION WORKSHOP
AT GCUF

Assistant Professor Mian Umar from the Department of Film and
TV at the Institute for Art and Culture was invited as a guest
trainer for a day-long workshop organized by the Mass
Communication Department, Government College University
Faisalabad (GCUF). The workshop focused on AI-powered video
production, with students engaging in practical activities to
enhance their understanding of video production techniques.
Faculty members of the Mass Communication Department also
participated in the session, contributing to its success. The
workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony,
where GCUF Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Amin and Dean of
Media Studies Dr. Salma Ambar awarded a certificate of
appreciation to Mr. Umar Farooq for his contribution.
